Deuba appointed province chiefs likely to be removed
KATHMANDU, July 5: After the government decided to nullify all the political appointments made by the erstwhile government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba, sources have claimed that the chiefs of all seven provinces are likely to be sent packing.
A cabinet meeting held Wednesday late evening had decided to annul the political appointments made after the date August 30, 2017, after the election code of conduct was introduced for the House of Representatives and National Assembly elections 2074. The incumbent government was formed on February 15, 2018.
On January 17, the Nepali Congress-led previous government had appointed Govinda Subba as the chief of Province 1, Ratneshwor Lal Kayastha as chief of Province 2, Anuradha Koirala as chief of Province 3, Babumram Kunwar as chief of Province 4, Uma Kantha Jha as chief of Province 5, Durga Keshar Khanal as chief of Province 6 and Mohan Raj Malla as chief of Province 7, sharing the top posts between itself and the Madhes-based parties.
Following yesterday’s decision to cancel all the political appointments, the government is preparing to dismiss all seven governors, according to high placed sources.
Deuba-led caretaker government had made several appointments at various ministries, corporations, councils, board and organized institutions violating the code of conduct
Oli, following the CM appointments, was also quick to criticize Deuba government saying that it had turned blind eyes of Nepal Communist Party (then CPN-UML)’s proposal while strongly hinting at the chances of removal of the province chiefs appointed by the caretaker government.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari is also in the mood to scrap the chiefs’ appointments, according to a source close to president.
