CEC Yadav demands authority to EC to announce poll date
DAMAULI, July 13: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said the Election Commission should be given the final authority to announce election date.
Inaugurating a newly constructed building of the District Election Office, Tahanu amidst a program on Friday, the CEC sought the right to declare the date of any poll to the EC.
The government still holding such right within itself has prevented the EC from working freely, thus averting the possibility of timely election. The EC is capable of holding an election within the 60 days of the announcement of poll date, according to him.
“The EC is presently carrying out works related to the preparation of organizational organogram, management of human resources, review of elections and collection of the details of voters in all 77 districts.
On the occasion, he thanked all who helped make the country’s recent three-level elections successful.
Tanahu Chief District Officer Bharat Raj Sharma, District Coordination Committee chief Shanti Raman Wagle, Byas Municipality chief Baikuntha Neupane, Regional Election Officer Ganga Lal Subedi and District Election Office Tahanu’s officiating chief Hari Prasad Lamichhane expressed their happiness over the construction of the building, adding that it would surely help conduct poll-related activities in the district smoothly. The three-storey building has 12 rooms. It was constructed at the cost of Rs 14.8 million.
