Four killed in Rasuwa landslides

RASUWA, July 26: At least four people have died after being buried in a landslide that took place last midnight at Timure in Gosaikunda rural municipality-2.

According to Chief District Officer Krishna Poudel, the deceased have been identified as Shyam Shrestha of around 42 years old from Bhotekoshi rural municipality-5 in Sindhupalchowk district, 27-year-old Bikram Shrestha and Mangal Tamang,45, of the same locality, and Sush Khadka ‘ramesh’, 35, of ward no.4 in the same rural municipality.

Five others are reported missing, and a search has been launched to find them. One concrete house, three hotels and four vehicles were buried in the landslide that began from around four kilometers above, according to the eyewitnesses.

As a result, the Syafru Rasuwagadhi section of the highway remains obstructed. A temporary police post at Timure was also buried in the mudslide. Disruption in power and communications services as a result of the landslide has halted day-to-day work at the customs office, according to Chief Customs Officer Gopal Koirala. RSS
