Road accidents on the rise
RAJBIRAJ, Aug 14: The Saptari district has seen recurring road accidents.
As many as 320 road crashes occurred in different parts of the district during the fiscal 2074/75. Some 79 had reportedly lost their lives to road mishaps whereas 189 sustained severe injuries and 344 minor injuries during the period.
In the last fiscal, 37 trucks, 53 buses, 50 cars and jeeps, 23 tractors, five tempos and 244 motorbikes had met with accidents, according to District Traffic Police Office Chief Inspector Sunil Kumar Shrestha.
Among the major causes behind the recurring road accidents include excessive flow of vehicles, congested East-West Highway, lack of alternative road, high speed of vehicles, alcoholic driving, Shrestha added.
It may be noted that 53,624 drivers had faced music for violating traffic rules in the last fiscal year alone. Revenue amounting to Rs 31.45 million was raised from the action for violation of traffic rules.
Some 51 had died in road accidents in the fiscal 2072/73 BS while the death toll from road mishaps was 22 in the year 2071/72 BS. RSS
