Customs office relying on an assistant staff

ILAM, Sept 17: The Manebhanjyang customs office based in Suryodaya municipality-1 of Ilam is being operated relying on an office assistant.

The subordinate customs checkpoint under Ilam-based Pashupatinagar customs office of the eastern hilly region is entirely run on the capacity of a single assistant level employee.

Only serving at Manebhanjyang customs office now is Office Assistant Laure Ghimire while four people had been designated earlier to look after the customs works.

With the failure in equipping adequate human resource, the unlawful import and export of goods including smuggling has been on the rise in the checkpoint.

This is the point through which Nepal’s vegetables and herbal products with medicinal values are exported to India and daily consumptive goods being imported to Nepal from India.

It has also resulted in decreasing trend of revenue collection. In short of human resources, the customs office is generating revenue of Rs 20, 000 to Rs 25,000 per month. RSS
