Kin protest over woman’s post-partum death in Lahan

Lahan, Dec 21 : Relatives of 21-year-old Sanju Paswan of Mirchaiya municipality-11 in Siraha who succumbed to post-partum complications here on Wednesday night have been protesting since this morning, citing the negligence of doctors and a faulty surgery.

Sanju underwent the C-section surgery at the local Om Gurukul Health Care Pvt Ltd. Locals have expressed solidarity to the protest and joined it. The protestors have gathered in the hospital premises, demanding action against doctors alleged of negligence in handling Paswan.

Sanju was first taken to the Lahan-based Ram Kumar Uma Prasad Memorial Hospital on Wednesday evening after she complained of labour pain.

The hospital referred her either to Biratnagar or Dharan. But it was an ambulance driver to whom they met on the hospital premises who advised them to take her to the Om Gurukul and drove her to there.

Doctors suggested her for C-section delivery after sometimes she was admitted to the hospital and a child was taken out safely.

Her kin said that after some minutes of the delivery, the hospital stated that Sanju was in need of blood transfusion due to her deteriorating health condition.

But instead of recovering, the health condition of Sanju was further worsening and she was referred to Biratnagar-based Nobel Hospital with an oxygen cylinder. But, she breathed her last on the way to Biratnagar, the bereaved relatives described the accounts.

Area Police Office Lahan’s chief, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Thapa, said police have been mobilized for the security of the hospital. Hospital management committee members were not available for their comments on the matter.
