Upper House MPs hit out at government for ‘failure’ to pay attention to Postal Highway

Kathmandu, Jan 4 : Lawmakers at today’s meeting of the National Assembly complained about failure to deliver quality construction work of the Postal Highway considered being a lifeline to the Tarai people.

The project is moving at a snail’s pace, and it lacks quality work, they grumbled. Putting his view at the special hour, lawmaker Chakra Prasad Snehi hit out at the government for failure to pay attention to all these problems involving the project. He also blamed the contractor for negligence in executing the project effectively.

Thagendra Prakash Puri called for initiating the due process to make laws related to fundamental rights of the people, while Tara Devi Bhatta drew the attention of the government and concerned authorities to work with the aim to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

She also complained about failure to arrest the murderer(s) of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur who was raped and subsequently killed in July. Likewise, Dipa Gurung stressed the need for making seeds and fertilisers available to farmers at an affordable price, for facilitating farmers to bring their agricultural products to the market and for managing technical education and investment in agriculture to make the country economically self reliant.

Lawmaker Parshuram Meghi Gurung drew government’s attention to conclude civil servant adjustment process in practical and scientific manner while Binda Devi Rana asked the government to take action against those found their involvement in corruption while purchasing two-wide-body aircrafts of the Nepal Airlines Corporation and to implement the report submitted by sub-committee of Public Accounts Committee.

Likewise, Ramesh Yadav demanded to take action against those found guilty in embezzlement in course of purchasing two wide-body aircrafts.

Lawmaker Singha Bahadur BK demanded to make arrangement of appropriate relief to Jure victims of Sindhupalchowk.
The government had decided to provide relief to Jure landslide victims equal to earthquake survivors.

Saying relief to Jure victims as equal to earthquake survivors would not be sufficient, BK said that both–landslide and earthquake relief should be provided to them.

Similarly, Ram Narayan Bidari complained that although there is a provision of bringing budget of the fiscal year in Jeth 15 every year in the constitution to stop the trend of carrying out development construction in last hour of fiscal year, activities related to development construction has not been effective.

Bidari demanded that Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management should brief the House why the construction of Hetauda, Bhimphedi, Dakshinkali roads was obstructed. RSS
