Monarchy ended earlier than time: Prof Dr Dhungel

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Prof Dr Ramesh Dhungel has argued that not the government but the system running the country has failed.

“Referendum was not called before declaring Nepal as secular state and federal republic. No homework was done. Therefore both democracy and republic are not functioning in the country,” said Dr Dhungel speaking at an interaction program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal on Wednesday.

“The system has failed. The federalism and republic have failed. The democracy is not functioning. It will not help bring development and prosperity in the country,” he added.

When asked if monarchy might be reinstated, he said, “It cannot be said whether monarchy will not revived or not. But I want to say that the King was thrown without consideration and earlier than the right moment,” he added. Dr Dhungel’s remark comes at a time when Rastriya Prajantantra Party led by Kamal Thapa is urging the government to call referendum on the federalism and reinstatement of Nepal as Hindu state.

He also viewed that due to failure of the system the international activities have increased in the country.
