KATHMANDU, April 26: About 4000 technicians hired by the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) announced joint resignation on Thursday citing they have not received the allowance for months.

Organizing a press conference at Reporters’ Club Nepal on Thursday, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the devastating 2015 April earthquake that claimed 9000 lives and left 22,000 injured, the workers accused the authority and government of not responding to their demands announced joint resignation.

“We have been in staging stage-wise protest against the injustice done to us. But our patience has broken now. We, all the technicians of 32 earth-quake affected districts have decided to jointly resign today,” said Abinash Amar, chairman of the National Reconstruction Authority Technicians Welfare Protection Struggle Committee.

“We will not return to works unless the government addresses our demands,” he added.

The workers have been protesting against the government since March 17 stating that they have not received allowance since the past nine months. They have also said they have been deprived of the facilities such as transportation and communication services, life insurance and dearness allowance guaranteed in the contract.

The NRA and the Nepal Engineers’ Association had assured the struggle committee to address the demands within a week on March 26. However, their demands went unheard.
