163 child marriage incidents reported in Silgadhi in three years

KATHMANDU, May 14: A total of 163 incidents of child marriages have occurred in Silgadhi municipality-8, Ladagada of Doti during the past three years, reveals a data.

The data was revealed by the Community Development Center (CDC) – a social development organization working in the district for a long time. A survey conducted by the organization came up with such a finding.

According to the survey results, there were 38 incidents of child marriage in the year 2016, 56 in 2017 and 69 in 2018.

Yekraj Badu, the district coordinator of Community Development Project, informed that total of 133 girls and 27 boys did child marriage during the period of three years from mid-April 2016 to mid-April 2019.

“Most of them are at the age of 14-19. Some of them got married on temptation while some others did so in the name of gaining religious grace”, he added.

Child marriage is found with the same trend in all ethnic groups. Mainly such incidents are taking place in society due to family pressure, mobile and internet use, temptation, poverty, social beliefs and optimism. RSS
