Chinese President Xi Jinping arriving today

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: President of People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping will arrive in Kathmandu today for a two-day official state visit.

Xi will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport at 4:30 pm from India. He is coming to Nepal after wrapping up a two-day informal summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will be welcomed by his counterpart President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.

Xi is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his Prez Bhandari at her official residence in Sitalniwas in the evening before attending a banquet at Hotel Soaltee.

On Sunday Xi will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Oli. Following the meeting, both leaders will witness the signing of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding.

PM Oli and President Xi are expected to sign over a dozen agreements including DPR of the Kerung-Kathmandu railway, construction of six-kilometer tunnel connecting Tokha of Kathmandu and Chhahare of Nuwakot, upgrading to Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali north-south corridors, Kimanthanka and Korala border points, cross-country power transmission line and establishment of Madan Bhandari University.

The visit will also be a boost for the acceleration of the implementation of major projects under China’s Belt and Road initiative in Nepal.

Xi is also scheduled to meet Nepal Communist Party Co-Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba tomorrow.

He will leave for Beijing on 1:00 pm on Sunday.

11:10 am – Delegation-level talks with PM Oli, MoUs signing

1:00 pm – Return to China
