Dr KC postpones hunger strike until Nov 4

Medial Education Bill

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Senior orthopedic surgeon and medical education reform activist Dr. Govinda KC has postponed his fast-unto-death until November 4 citing the Tihar festival, according to reports.

Dr. KC, on Oct 16, had warned fresh hunger strike from Oct 30 if the government failed to address his seven-point demand by Oct 25.

KC, retired on Oct 14 after serving 26 years at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, has already gone of hunger strike for sixteenth times demanding reform in medical education.

He ended his last hunger strike on Feb–that lasted 24 days– a day after the government endorsed the controversial National Medical Education Bill going against the previous agreement reached with him and amid strong protest from the parliament and streets.

KC has demanded the government a revision in the Bill.
