Deputy Speaker turns downs Oli’s request to resign

KATHMANDU, Nov 20: Deputy Speaker Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe has refused Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s request to resign from the position.

According to sources, PM Oli, who is preparing to bring changes in his Council of Ministers today, had offered Tumbahamphe a position of minister.

But she refused to resign saying the leadership will remain vacant if she resigns right away, a source stated.

The position of Speaker is vancant since Krishna Bahadur Mahara stepped down from the position following the accusation of attempted rape on a parliament staffer last September.

Tumbahamphe has been claiming the position of Speaker for herself. But, Oli is intending to appoint a new one.

The party source says that Dev Prasad Gurung, Agni Prasad Sapkota and Subash Nembang have been prefered for the position.

However, Nembang has clarified he would not go for the position again he handled three times already.
