Accountable ombudsman necessary mechanism to curb corruption: Former PM Dr. Bhattarai
DANG, Nov 28: Former Prime Minister and President of the Interim Council of the Samajwadi Party Nepal (Socialist Party of Nepal) Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said that “The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has not been able to control corruption”.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Reporters Club Dang chapter earlier today, former PM Bhattarai said that the commission which was formed in a partisan manner was weak in nature. “The authorities have only targeted small fish, why are they not able to target the bigger fish,” he said giving an example.
“The ombudsman should be answerable and accountable for the people, it should take full responsibility and this is the right mechanism that should be in place”.
“The Prime Minister along with the rest should be accountable and investigated on in order to curb corruption, this should be inspected by the CIAA”.
The program that was officiated by the Reporters Club President Dang Chapter Sharad Regmi, had the former PM speaking on issues of poverty, the current 2/3rd majority government, and their work for the people.
“The country is in a vicious cycle of extreme poverty along with rising unemployment. The majority government which has a 2/3rd is visibly unable to do much for the upliftment of the marginalized section. No visible changes can be seen in their work” he said.
“The government has only done enough to provide the slogan of “Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali”, but it is limited to speech and nothing in action has been implemented. Economically too we have not been able to see much improvement. He stressed on making futuristic plans and working alongside for its implementation for long term growth.
“This full majority government has not been able to provide jobs, neither has it been able to increase investments in big industries, nothing can be seen in terms of financial transformation,” said the former PM.
