101 political parties battle for 52 seats in Nepal’s by-election
KATHMANDU, Nov 29: Nepal is all set for its by-elections to be held tomorrow. Positions are up for elections to the House of Representative (HoR) Provincial Assembly (PA) and various local and ward elections totaling 52 different seats. The entire preparation of the elections is complete.
The by-elections are going to be held in 37 districts, and there are 4,45,114 eligible voters. One HoR seat, 3 PA, and 43 ward and local level positions are up for elections. The HoR seat is being held for Kaski-2, while Bhaktapur 1 Ka, Baglung-2 Kha, and Dang-3 Kha have provincial elections.
The spokesperson for the Election Commission (EC) Raj Kumar Shrestha stated that all necessary preparations are now complete. A voter-friendly environment has been made for voters to participate in the elections.
Aged people, disabled, and pregnant women have been kept in mind and necessary facilities are going to be provided. The voters have to bring their voter id cards which are compulsory. The EC will open by 7 in the morning and begin the election process. Their officers will be on active duty as stated by the spokesperson.
16 days were given for campaigning for this by-election, for the HoR and STA while 10 days were given for the local and ward elections. The EC had taken out its code of conduct and implemented its provisions on October 25.
In the entire elections of the HoR, PA and local level elections a total of 101 political parties are participating. For the HoR and PA a total of 95 political parties have named candidates, and 78 political parties in the local elections. There are a total of 16 new political parties in this by-election.
