Against factionalist politics: Dr. Koirala’s increasing outreach within NC
KATHMANDU: Main opposition party Nepali Congress Central Committee member Dr. Shekhar Koirala has been against factionalism and intra-party politics. He has not been a part of any particular faction and discourages such politics.
The recent central committee meeting which saw a dispute between the NC President former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and former Deputy Prime Minister and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel spill out in the open leaving the convention in uncertainly had Dr. Koirala outside the peripheries of participation.
Although with factionalism rife between the members of Congress party, Dr. Koirala is one such leader that has actively created an image of self for the party as a whole.
The dates of the convention have not yet been finalized while leader Poudel had even flown to eastern Nepal to avoid the meeting that was being called by NC President Deuba.
Dr. Koirala is known to be clean without an inclination to either faction, whereas most of the senior leaders including the President have deeply rooted toward their respective factions. This move of Dr. Koirala has made him likable among the masses of the party as a reliable leader that would eventually guide the party out of the current crisis.
