Nomination filing for NA election today



National Assembly Election

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The nomination filing for the upcoming National Assembly (NA) election, scheduled for January 23, is taking place from 10 am to 3 pm today, according to the Election Commission (EC).

The two-year tenure of eight lawmakers of Nepal Communist Party, seven lawmakers of Nepali Congress, two lawmakers of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, one of Samajbadi and President nominated one is expiring on March 3.

The NA election will elect 18 members in the 59-member NA as the two-year tenure of 19 lawmakers–eight lawmakers of Nepal Communist Party, seven lawmakers of Nepali Congress, two lawmakers of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, one of Samajbadi and one nominated by the President–is due to expire on March 3, 2020.

One member will be appointed by the President upon the recommendation of the cabinet. Article 86 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal states that term of office of the one-third of the NA shall expire in two years, another one-third in four years and the tenure of the final one-third will be six years.

The arrangement of their retirement was made by drawing lots.
