Bhatkatpur court issues arrest warrant against Durga Prasain

BHAKTAPUR, Jan 16: Bhaktapur District Court has issued an arrest warrant against the executive director of Jhapa-based B&C Medical College Teaching Hospital and Research Center Pvt Ltd, Durga Prasad Prasain on Thursday.

After Prasain accused Medical Education Commission Vice-chairperson Shree Krishna Giri of bribery, the latter had filed a defamation and misdemeanor case against Prasain.

Prasain has accused Giri of demanding Rs 200 million in bribe in exchange for granting government affiliation to B&C Medical College at a hotel on Dec 1. Prasai has also filed a graft case at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority and Department of Money Laundering Investigation accusing him of amassing a huge amount of property through illegal channels.

But, Giri has denied any wrongdoing and moved the court stating he is innocent.

Following the court order, the police had reached Prasai’s house in Bhaktapur and in Jhapa to arrest him but Prasai is at large.
