Arrest warrant issued against singer Astha Raut

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: District Administration Office Kathmandu on Sunday has issued an arrest warrant against singer popular singer Astha Raut for her “indecent behavior” to an on-duty police constable Ramita Shrestha at the Tribhuvan International Airport last week.

The arrest warrant comes after constable Shrestha filed a complaint against Raut at the TIA security office, accusing her of misbehavior and verbal abuse. The complaint was forwarded to Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu. 

A CCTV footage surfaced on social media which shows a confrontation between Raut and Shrestha at the security check at the domestic terminal.

Following the incident, Raut, while heading to Sikkim from Bharatpur, had posted a 10-min long video on social network expressing anger toward the police officers accusing the airport security personnel of “abuse”, “misconduct” and “lack of respect”.

After receiving criticisms, Raut then posted another video explaining how Shrestha abused her and disrespected her at the terminal. She also apologized the police organization for use of “offensive and inappropriate words” in the video she posted earlier.

Raut is currently in Sikkim for a musical show.

Raut is known for her hits Saal ko Pata Tapari, Maya Yo Maya and Chaubandi Ma Patuki.
