Astha Raut under police control

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Controversial singer Astha Raut has presented herself before the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu on Monday.

Raut was dragged into controversy after she posted a video on Facebook criticizing Nepal Police for their “rude” behavior, while calling the “lower-ranked police officers” as “uncivilized” and “lacking respect”, following a confrontation with a female police officer at the domestic terminal of the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Based on the video, which Raut deleted following a row of criticisms on social media, officer Ramita Shrestha had filed a complaint of “misconduct” at the Range.

According to Spokesperson at the Metropolitan Police Range Hobindra Bogati, a relative of Raut brought her to the police.

Raut, who was on her way to Sikkim for a program when the controversy emerged, had returned to Nepal two days ago.

The police will move forward the investigation into the complaint filed against her, according to the police.

She has been kept under custody in Teku. It has also been learned that the police are preparing to take her to Bir Hospital for health tests.
