Chir erected in Basantapur to mark the beginning of Holi (Photo Feature)



KATHMANDU, March 3: A Chir has been erected in Basantapur, Kathmandu to mark the beginning of Holi, festival of colors, on Tuesday.

The locals erected the bamboo pole with small ribbons of different colors hanging in three circles on the top today morning.

The installation of 32-foot long Chir means it will be legal to play colors although the festival signifying the end of winter and arrival of spring is celebrated nationwide and in India on full moon day on the month of Falgun.

On Holi, people walk through the town and celebrate the festival smearing colors and drenching each other.
