Two RPPs merge, formal announcement on Wednesday

KATHMANDU, March 8: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (United) has announced unification on Sunday. A formal announcement is set for Wednesday.

With the unification, the proposed new party RPP will have three chairpersons—Kamal Thapa, Pashupati Shumsher J B Rana and Prakash Chandar Lohani. Lohani led RPP (Nationalist) and Rana led RPP (Democratic) had merged on Feb 1 to form RPP (United).

The three chairs signed a unification agreement on Saturday night and informed that a formal announcement function will be held on Wednesday.

As per the agreement, the nomination in central committee, formation of secretariat and distribution of responsibilities will be done in consensus among the three chairs.

They have also agreed to continue their dissatisfaction toward the constitution and embrace the agenda of democracy with monarchy and Nepal as a Hindu state.

The new party will follow the statute of RPP until a new statute is proposed within six months.

The leaders have also agreed to hold a general convention within one-and-half-year, but they are yet to agree on election symbol and flag.
