Nepali dies of coronavirus in UK
KATHMANU, April 12: An ex-Gurkha serviceman has died of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom on Saturday.
Originally from Waling in Syangja district of Nepal, Yam Bahadur Malla, 86, died during treatment at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.
Malla had been living in Swindon with his son and family since 2004. He was admitted to the hospital four days ago after suffering from cough and diarrhea, according to Chairperson of the Chettri Society in London Rajan Kumar Chettri.
Malla is the second Nepali national to die from the disease in the UK. Earlier, a 66-year-old former British Gurkha soldier had died from the virus on March 17.
According to Non-Resident Nepali Association, a total of 12 Nepalis have died of the virus abroad so far while 665 are infected.
