PM Oli to deposit his salary to COVID-19 fund until the pandemic ends

KATHMANDU, April 13: Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli said he will deposit all his monthly salaries to the COVID-19 prevention and treatment fund until the pandemic ends.

In his video message to the people on the occasion of Nepali New Year 2077, he said he will not receive his salary until the end of the pandemic.

“As the head of the state, I have decided to deposit my salary to the Prime Minister relief fund until the COVID-19 ends.”

He also wished all the Nepalis living inside the country and abroad new year “with a heavy heart” and hoped people could prevent the infection and those infected could overcome the virus.

“I wish the world can defeat the virus very soon,” he added.

Stating that we would be celebrating the arrival of 2 million tourists and economic growth had the pandemic not hit the world, he urged one and all to stand together and collect strength to fight against the virus while keeping social distance.

“The government is taking every measure to ensure the virus does not spread and has succeeded in controlling the spread of the virus with no deaths reported,” he said. Nepal has reported 13 cases so far.

He also expressed his gratefulness to the other countries for their support to Nepal in combat against the virus.

According to him, Nepal is receiving 29 million USD from the World Bank and 1563 million USD from various other organizations as support to fight the coronavirus crisis.
