Another ex-Gurkha dies of coronavirus in UK
KATHMANDU, April 15: Another former Gurkha soldier has died of coronavirus on Wednesday as the number of Nepalis dying of the disease has reached 10 in the United Kingdom.
Laxman Shrestha, 55, died while receiving treatment at the Guy’s Hospital in central London, said Bhoj Baral, who served with Shrestha.
Shrestha had been living in Plumstead. He originally hails from Syangja had recently shifted in Poikhara lakeside.
According to Baral, Shrestha’s health had not improved although he was kept in ventilator. He was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago after she suffered from fever and cold.
Of the 10 deceased, seven are former British Gurkha servicemen.
The pandemic has killed 12,868 and infected 98,476 people in the UK.
Globally, the virus has infected 2,083,607 people and claimed 134,632 lives – most in the United States with 644,089 infections and 28,529 deaths, followed by Italy which has recorded 165,155 cases and 21,645 deaths. Spain is another worst-hit county with 180,659 infections and 18,812 deaths. France has reported 147,836 infections and 17,167 deaths.
