COVID-19 high-level coordination committee recommends govt to extend lockdown

KATHMANDU, May 5: A meeting of the High-level Coordination Committee to prevent and control the coronavirus pandemic has recommended the government to extend the nationwide lockdown.

The meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar decided to recommend the government to re-extend the lockdown for the fifth time as the coronavirus cases continue to surge in the country.

However, the period the extension has not been confirmed yet.

“We have recommended the government to extend the nationwide lockdown owing to the rising coronavirus cases in the country, said Secretary at the PM’s office Narayan Prasad Bidari.

“But the period of extension will be decided by the Council of Ministers possibly tomorrow,” he added.

The lockdown which came into force on March 24, a day after the second case was reported, is ending on May 7.

Since then, 80 more cases have been reported.
