COVID-19 high level committee plans to change modality of lockdown
KATHMANDU, May 15: A meeting of the High-level Coordination Committee to prevent and control the novel coronavirus pandemic has decided to revise the modality of the nationwide lockdown, which is in effect since March 24.
As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in the country, the government is not likely to end the ongoing lockdown any time soon. The lockdown which was extended for the fourth time on May 6 is ending of May 18.
Secretary at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Narayan Bidari, the government is preparing to continue the lockdown identifying the high-risk, mild-risk and low-risk zones.
Nepal has reported 258 coronavirus cases so far.
The meeting has also decided to 600 migrant workers and students to Japan after completing health screening and immigration procedures via a chartered flight. People with Hong Kong ID will also be allowed to leave.
