Health Ministry confirms second death from coronavirus
KATHMANDU, May 17: The Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed Nepal’s second coronavirus death on Sunday.
A 25-year-old male from Narainepur-5 of Banke district has died in quarantine, ministry Spokesperson Bikas Devkota informed during a daily press briefing.
“The deceased patient had returned to Nepal from India on May 12. He suffered from fever and diarrhea on Saturday and died at 6:40 am today morning. His nasal and throat swab samples were tested for the possible COVID-19 infection, which turned out to be positive,” shared Devkota.
This is the second death from coronavirus in Nepal, also two fatalities in two days.
On Saturday, a mother of a 10-days-old infant died from the infection.
The 29-year-old female from Barhabise municipality of Sindhupalchowk was discharged from TU Teaching Hospital on May 7, a day after delivering the baby. She had returned her home town two days later.
She suffered from cough, fever and breathing difficulty and she had visited Barhabise Primary Health Care Center on May 14. After her health deteriorated, she was refered to Dhulikhel Hospital but died on the way.
The ministry, earlier today, had confirmed ten new infections, taking Nepal’s total cases to 291.
