COVID-19 High-level committee recommends govt to extend lockdown by ten more days

KATHMANDU, May 17: The High-level Coordination Committee to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic has recommended the government to extend the ongoing nationwide lockdown for 10 more days.

A meeting of the Committee held today afternoon decided to recommend the government to extend the lockdown for the fifth time concluding it the only alternative to avoid the further spread of the pandemic that infected 291 people across 28 districts and killed two.

The Committee has also asked the government to apply stricter measures to avoid further disaster as the Health and Ministry has confirmed second death in two days.

“The lockdown could be extended until May 28,” said a minister, who is in the committee.

The ongoing lockdown, which came into effect on March 24, ends on Monday.
