RPP to support constitution amendment bill
KATHMANDU, May 27: Rastriya Prajatantra Party has decided to support the constitution amendment bill that seeks an amendment to the Schedule-3 of the constitution to update the Nepal map in the national emblem as per the revised administrative map. The new Nepal map released on May 18 incorporates the territories of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura.
A meeting among the Chairs Kamal Thapa, Pashupati Shumsher Rana and Dr. Prakash Chandar Lohani decided to support the amendment proposal, according to a press release issued by RPP Central Secretariat.
The bill was scheduled to be presented in today’s parliament meeting for discussion, but the plan was withdrawn from the business schedule in the last minute as per the request of the government. The government is planning to pass the bill within one week of its presentation.
Law Minister Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe had registered the amendment proposal on Friday.
The bill was not included in the schedule today since the main opposition party Nepali Congress is yet to decide on the matter while the Samajbadi Janata Party has pressed the government to include its own long-standing demand of the constitution amendment.
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has urged all the political parties representing the parliament to pass the bill unanimously since it is the matter of national integrity and sovereignty.
The bill needs two-third majority to be endorsed.
