Govt tables constitution amendment bill at parliament

New Nepal map

KATHMANDU, May 31: The government has tabled the constitution amendment bill at the parliament on Sunday, seeking an amendment in the Schedule-3 of the constitution to update the Nepal map in the national emblem as per the revised administrative map.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shivamaya Tumbahangphe tabled the bill for discussions in today’s meeting, two weeks after the government released the New Nepal map incorporating Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura inside the Nepali border.

The bill was scheduled to be tabled last week, but was removed from the business schedule at the final minute at the request of the government since the main opposition party Nepali Congress was yet to decide on the matter and Janata Samajbadi Parlty had been pressing its own long-standing demands of constitution amendment.

The NC had decided to support the amendment bill yesterday.

The bill was registered at the parliament on May 20, two days after the new Nepal map was released.
