Youth dies of COVID-19 in Surkhet, virus death toll reaches 11

SURKHET, June 5: A youth who died on Thursday morning after returning from quarantine has tested positive for the COVID-19.

The 20-year-old male from Panchapuri municipality-1 of Surkhet district had returned from Mumbai, India on May 22. He, along with 54 other people, were send to a quarantine facility set up at the Janata Secondary School.

He was sent home on Wednesday after his RDT report came negative and was recommended to stay at home quarantine for some days. He had reached his home at midnight but died two hours later.

His swab samples were sent to State Avian Disease Investigation, Laboratory, Surkhet for COVID-19 test. He tested positive.

Preparations are being carried out to collect throat swab samples of others who had come with him from India and stayed with him in the quarantine,” said ward Chair Dhan Bahadur Thapa.

With this, the death toll from the virus in Nepal has reached 11 and two in Karnali.

Earlier, a 35-year-old male from Dullu municipality of Dailekh district had passed away in quarantine and he was tested positive for the virus.

Nepal has reported 2,634 cases so far.
