25 percent workers return to work in tourism industry
Jamuna Barsha Sharma : After the extended lockdown imposed to contain COVID-19 has been relaxed, the tourism activities here are striving to return normal. The workers in the tourism industry shutdown for four months began returning to the work stations.
Pokhara Tourism Council has said 25 percent workers associated to the tourism industry returned to work after the tourism business opened here. The government had allowed the re-opening of the tourism activities two days back.
Council’s Vice-Chair Gopi Bhattarai said, “After long tourism industry resumed the business. The industry is resumed not for full fledged operation but for internal management.”
Hotel and restaurants, trekking shops, travel agencies are open here. In the initial stage, only 25 percent employee can join the work, he added.
According to him, the workers will be return to normal duty after the industry gains pace.
It is estimated that tourism industry in Pokhara has employed some 30,000 people. Hotel, trekking and travel agencies, paragliding, ultra-light, embroidery, tourist transport, rural tourism are the area creating jobs.RSS
